Oh my gosh, give me a break…

Take a look at the context for what the Bibles calls ‘witches’ and ‘wizards.’ These aren’t people that got a letter from Hogwarts while they were teenagers. What a horrible argument from someone that otherwise seems learned.

There are shallow christians and deep christians. Shallow christians know the basics and deep christians have read a good amount of the bible. You just confused the, because its the deep christians your really after, right?

Discerning the thoughts of God is a challenging task. Discerning his will is easier. It is not the case that all speaking in the name of God have been authorized to do so. Christians came to understand that their Bishops were authorized to teach and in congress Bishops held some teachings false.

So, if you agree that Jesus authorized his Apostles and their successors to teach authentically you need only find the statements of those (human) authorities.

You should not expect the teachings of Jesus to be clear to all generation, all cultures, and all times. The morality of each genetic engineering technique or style of driving motor vehicles was not addressed by Jesus, nor his Apostles. Nor were democratic forms of government the ideal at the time. Slaves were an established social class. Teachings of those times must be authentically applied to today.

Some forms of prayer and worship in the past no longer bring people close to God as they did before. Some might even scandalize people and push them away from God. These come and go as people need them. Meditation in Christianity is an example.

Some teachers were wrong and their teachings should not be resurrected as practices, but only to understand what sounds good, but isn’t.

The authorized teachers of the way of Jesus and his Apostles are guided by the Holy Spirit, as are his followers. In a whole they are incapable of error over time. That there are certain wrong ideas present today is without question. It is human to explore and seek new, good practices; it is also human to make mistakes.

The message of Jesus is one. Its expression in different cultures and different historical periods and in different times should not disguise this.

Clearly he thinks whatever the person answering you wants him to think. If I were a die hard Catholic, I would be loudly yammering on with *certainty* that God only considers Catholicism to be true Christianity. If I were Fred Phelps, I’d say the Westboro Bapist Church is the only real Christianity. Repeat ad nauseum

I’m a so called “Christian”. I believe that the bible is no more than a mere moral guidebook to be analysed and applied to the the choice you must make.

If you believe that a sky wizard will put toothpicks under your toenails if you enjoy a good ol’ round of anal sex you might have gone a bit to far.
